50 marathons in 50 Days by Dean Karnazes

On several recommendations from other runners, I bought a Dean Karnazes' book on his exploits of running 50 marathons in 50 consecutive days in 50 states.

Anytime someone does something special, they should take the opportunity to share their experiences and Dean Karnazes' book does just that.

His book covers each of his marathons and provides plenty of tips, tricks, and suggestions for just about everyone from first time marathoners to experienced veterans. In my opinion no one is ever too old to learn something new and the information provided in the sub-sections of the book might be well worth the cost of the book alone.

One the most interesting aspect of the book was when Dean shared the experiences that occurred during each of the marathons. So many people came out to run with him and each had their own special reasons for completing the marathon. It was inspiring to read about people facing their own personal challenges and how they used running to help focus their lives and overcome their own personal struggles.

On one final note, Dean provides a lot statistics about this 50/50/50 Endurance Challenge toward the end of the book. In addition, he provides two easily understood training plans: one for 1st time marathons and one for experienced marathoners.

The book runs about 300 pages, cost about 15.00, and is available at Book-a-million.

There is also a DVD of this event. I rented it from Netflix. The book is better. Have talked with many people who have met Dean, and they say he is as nice and sincere in person as in print. That was good to hear he was not just a "glamour-Hollywood" runner. I know everyone needs a goal to motivate them, but it makes you wonder ehat he could do if he strictly concentrated on marathon.
