The Pirate 5k

I have been on this one race a month plan this summer, so for August, I was in Lincolnton, NC for their "The Pirate 5k".

The race was well for me. I ran 20:08 and finished 5 overall. The race was loaded with high schoolers, that I assume are getting ready for their fall cross country season.

The starts in front of a local church but within a few hundred yards jumps on the green cutting across Lincolnton. Who knew. I have been to Lincolnton many times, but I never realized that this existed.

The greenway runs in a north south direction. From the church, we did a "T" shaped race, so out run the greenway and then returning to the church.

We had a nice downhill going out. There was a nice climb through the center of the race, then more downhill, followed by another climb back up to the finish.

The heat and humidity made if feel awful. At least, most of the course was in the shade.

These days my legs only turn over so fast. Doesn't seem like I can do much about it.

Still, I enjoy the racing. Whether I am running 16 minutes or 20 minutes, I still like competing.
