Brixx 10k Course Review

The RFYL Grand Prix series is slowly winding to close with the 8th of 9
races taking place this weekend.

The Brixx 10k has been around for a number of years and remained pretty much the same course with only minor changes in the last few years. RFYL has posted the course maps on their website for both 10k and 5kraces. I would suggest checking them out prior to Saturday.

The start kicks off at 7:45 when runners begin their trek down 7th street. The course then takes right turn and winds through a number of neighborhood streets before returning by CCPC and then back out to 7th street for the final mile which finishes uptown.

To help get you orientated to course, I recreated the 10k course on map my run website. This should give you an idea of the mile marks and evaluation changes along the course.

My best suggestion for a race strategy is to manage your energy. There are number of long uphill climbs during the race. Pushing too hard on any one of these hills will leave you on in oxygen debt and most likely will cost you a decent finish time.

Try taking each mile one at time and if your breathing becomes labored, drop in behind the guys that you are chasing. Use them to help pull you up the hills.

And best of luck to everyone racing Saturday.

-side note – Steve Spada and I will be doing a couple of miles warm up starting at 7:10 heading out from the finish line for those interested.

Thanks for the tips Bill! I'm looking forward to the 10k and maybe the 5k too if I'm not too wobbly after the 10k!
