Quarry 5k Run
I ran the Vulcan 5k Quarry Run a few weeks ago. This was a race that I did last year, and I liked it so much that I decide my quads again this year. I was slower this year by about 40 seconds. I guess pushing across another decade milestone is the reason.
The race itself was much colder this year. The wind was really blowing. My fingers were numb. The course was roughly how I remember it. We had a flat start, followed by a long downhill into the quarry. There was gentle rise back up before reversing down a different road to another part of the pit. Then, the final climb is just brutal. I am leaning so far forward that my back starts to hurt.
The awards consisted of a nice size piece of limestone with an age group name plate on it. The shirts were a lime green. This was confusing because the Vulcan corporate colors a "Duke" shade of blue.
I came away with a 1st age group award for my 21:16 time. I kind of want to put this race back on my calendar for next, but that's a ways away. Who knows where any of us will be by this time next year.
