WWC Tread Red, White, & Blue 5ks.

I headed for the WWC this morning for their Tread Red, White, & Blue 5k. To summarize, they hold 3 different 5k races, marked by Red, White, and Blue arrows. They don't publicize the courses, so picking color means nothing. On race day, you could be running an easy course or the most difficult course.

Of course, those of us that run at the WWC have pretty fair idea of what the courses could be. There is limited number of options to get in a 5k.

Since I started doing this race several years ago, I have always stuck with the color "White".

This year, they got creative. We headed down to the boat dock and picked up the South Main trail. From there, we did all of Carpet, and 1/2 Tower before connecting back on South Main and back to the Pavillion. The course is pretty accurate to my estimation.

Compared to the other courses, I think that it had more vert but was probably less technical. Unfortunately for me, this was also the most competitive of the 3 races. At least, this is my perspective after looking at the results.

I know on the front side Carpet and later the front side of Tower, the heat was a huge factor. No air was stirring. My body was battling between clearing the lactic acid building in my legs and pushing enough blood near my skin in hopes of cooling me. Around 1.5 miles, I went by the aid station, and I grabbed a cup of water. When the cold water hit the top of my head, it felt amazing. I wish that I had grabbed a few more cups.

My time was 24:50. This placed my 9th overall in the race.

Despite the heat and humidity, everyone seem to have a good time at the race.
