Frigid 10k @ WWC

I ran the pushed back 4 weeks Frigid 10k at the WWC yesterday. The race had been scheduled for one of the coldest and snowiest days in recent memory. I would have loved to see who was brave enough to take a dip in their deep-water pool when the air temperature was 28 degrees. I wonder if the water would actually freeze on your skin when you get out.

Of course, this was not the case yesterday. The temperature was around 45 degrees, and they were asking to people shower off before hitting the pool. With the steady rain covering Charlotte on Thursday and Friday, the trails were a slippery, muddy mess. More than a few times, I planted my foot only to feel it slipping. Mainly, I focused on keeping my feet square with my shoulders. Better to live to fight another day than hit the dirt.

We started a pavilion, followed the channel around, before turning left and picking up the North Main trail over by the boat dock. From there, we headed down to South Main, picked up Carpet, back to South Main to Toilet bowel, back on South Main, over to the back side of Dog Leg, and then on to the finish.

My miles were pretty study except for Toilet Bowel. For whatever reason, I just couldn't hold my pace. I slipped over a minute and half off my overall pace. Then, maybe keeping my feet underneath me was the bigger priority anyway.

Overall, I was happy with my effort two weeks recovered from Oak Island. My hamstring didn't give me any issues. Mainly, I just didn't have the leg turnover. I definitely need more speed work over the next few months.

For now, I take my 54:11, 16th overall, and 1st in age group and be happy. I added another WWC hat to already huge collection. At least, this was one that I didn't have.
