Frosty 50 - 25k Recap
Saturday morning, I found myself driving up to Salem Lake in Winston Salem, NC for the Frosty 50 - 25k race. I love running this course. The nice big loop which is mostly on dirt. Saturday was better than my last visit. Then, the weather was raining and in the mid 30s. I never got warm the entire race.
Saturday was so much better. Maybe a little wind blew on the way out, but the skies were overcast with maybe just a hint of drizzle. The temperature was in the low 40s.
I merged into the crowd of runners at the start when what I think was rifle firing to everyone's surprise, we were off and running. I settled into a solid pace and attempted to keep my breathing in check.
Having runners around me made the miles pass so much faster. This woman and I were about the same pace. We kept going back and forth through early miles. I got ahead of her after 10 miles.
This was my first hard effort in several months. After my bike accident in early November, I just didn't feel too much like racing or even running hard.
So, with the start of a new year, I needed to get things kicked back into gear.
I finished 12th overall in 1:52:22. This won my age group. I got a nice little coaster for my efforts.
The hardest part of doing this race is that it comes right after the holidays. I never feel like I go into it at my best. Maybe one of these years will be different. One never knows.
For now, I checked another 25k box to start '26, and I am looking forward to the rest of the year.
