CRC S2F 13 Mile Race @ Ann Spring
A few years ago, they moved the Jan S2F trail race to Ann Springs from the WWC. As this race now conflicted with another race on my calendar, I hadn't had the opportunity to race it.
This all changed this past weekend. I was headed out at 8:30 AM for 13 miles from the Haigler Trail head. The trails were a bit wet and muddy in spots. I wore my Hoka Speed Goats. They gave me some pretty good traction throughout the race.
The temperature was in the low 40s, so warm for what we have been experiencing lately.
I felt pretty good through about 10 miles. Then, I don't know what happen. My energy levels seemed to fall off.
We started to mix in with the 9 milers, and then with the 4 milers. The trail became crowded and pretty cut up from the traffic.
Overall, I think the course is definitely easier and faster than the one at the WWC from a few years ago. My time certainly indicated that it was.
I ran 1:43:57 to finish 12th overall and first in my age group. The awards were mugs and a grab bag from a merchandise table. I snagged up a nice pair of black arm warmers.
Oh, I was expecting to do the creek crossing in the first couple of miles. However, they took this option away. Everyone had to run across the swinging bridge. I was kind of disappointed. I wanted the cold-water experience. Maybe they will bring it back for next year.
