$8 Race Registration
I have heard lots of runners discuss how much more expensive race registrations are today than in years past. This really hit home for me recently. I was at my dad's house, and he had a box my stuff from when I was in my early 20. Yeah, parents seem to hold on to everything.
Last night, I started going through this box, and I found some really old checks from the 1980s. Yeah, remember the day when you had to mail in your race registration, and one would include a physical check. So, I was thumbing through the checks. Lots of them were for race registrations. No surprise there.
One caught my eye. This check was for old Charlotte Observer 10k. This race, surprise, cost me a whopping $8 including a t-shirt. Most of the others were for $4 and $5.
Now, 5K race that cost less than $30 is the exception rather than the rule. Pretty much, I will still get the same t-shirt, maybe a medal, the timing is a bit faster i.e. no hand scoring but the rest of the experience is pretty much the same.
I guess inflation hits everywhere. Right.
