Run to the River 5k

Spencer, NC has not changed in the past year except that when I pulled into town, rain was falling. The drive up has been non-stop with rain. I cannot remember the last race that I did in the rain. I wasn't looking forward to this one.

Then, about 10 minutes before the start, the rain stopped, but the wind started pickup. I am not sure which poison that I prefer.

By the 1/2 mile, I moved in 2nd place. Being this is a point-to-point course; I kept my eyes glued on the road ahead. The temperature was definitely different than last weekend where it was 80 degrees at the start and so humid that I was covered sweat.

The course rolls the first mile or so and has a few false flats through 2 miles. Then, I hit the final mile which gave me a gentle pull down to the finish.

I finished in 19:51. Each mile was run progressively faster, but I did realize that I didn't get out as quickly as I should have. I should have pushed a little harder. Maybe next year.

I took home a medal for my 2nd place effort.
