Love 5k

Saturday morning, I made the short drive to Elevation Church in Cornelius, NC. I ran this race a three years ago. When I saw it in S2F email, I decided to add it to my race calendar this year.

These guys do things a bit differently. Instead of a race registration, they "ask" for a donation. It is not required, but hey, I hope that it goes for a good cause so, I did give a "donation".

Anyway, setting aside the registration, the rest of the race is solid and no different than any other race that I have run.

By large, the course is a loop. We run the first mile which is slightly downhill to the greenway. We spend nearly a mile on the greenway. Then, we turn off and head back through some neighborhoods back to the finish. Those neighborhoods do have some climbs. I didn't handle them as well as I wanted.

Maybe age, maybe too many workouts, or maybe it was just the heat and humidity. Whatever excuse that sounds good; use it. The short story is that I struggled over the last mile. No "ifs" "ands" or "buts" about it.

On a different note, I did run several other runners that I knew. I did like getting see some familiar faces. I get a chance to catch up on old and new stories which is always nice.

Otherwise, I am putting a wrap on this one. I am back racing in two weeks. Hopefully, when I finish it, the taste will be better.

See you on the roads
