Run the South 1/2 Marathon
Running a 1/2 marathon in June in Charlotte, NC should require a check of one's facilities. Charlotte is hot and humid. Even with a 7 AM starting time, the rising temperature makes running difficult. Sweat was running down my arms just standing at the starting line.
Probably the biggest break that every runner had was the shade. Nearly the entire course had some type of shade. Definitely, I was happy about it.
I went out a bit too hard, so I had to settle for few miles. At which point, I was feeling better and running better. Runners in my group started to drop off the pace. Only one guy was able to surge ahead of me. I wanted to hang but I just could not make it happen.
For this race I got some GoodR sunglasses and a race shirt.
As for my race, I was about 5 minutes better than last year, but then, last year, at this time, I was coming off an injury.
Like I said, I know that it is crazy to do a 1/2 in Charlotte, NC, in June, there is just something about the challenge of it, that has drawn me back.
We will see if I am back next year
