Charlotte 10 Miler

After one icy weekend and one snowy weekend, I was back racing. This time, I was headed to south Charlotte for the Charlotte 10 miler on the McMullen Greenway.

The temperature was definitely cold. The wind made it feel worse.

The 4 milers headed off at 7:30 AM. The 10-miler started at 7:45. Everyone was bundled up. I opted for a singlet and arm sleeves. I knew that I would warm up eventually. I always want options. In case, I start to get too warm.

For the first couple of miles, my fingers were numb. Then, slowly the Sun came up, and running felt pretty good.

The field seemed to down from years past, or maybe it was just me. The race strung out pretty quickly. By two miles I had settled into the spot where I finished.

I wanted to pick up the pace in the middle part of the race. However, I could never find the right rhythm. I simply held on to the same pace.

Racing is definitely getting harder with each passing year. My legs just don't turn over very fast anymore.

I was very happy with my 66:18. I finished 16 overall and first in my age. The neck scarf award really came in handy on a very cold morning.

See you at the races,

The Cool Down Runner
