Rocky Road 10k @ WWC

Yesterday, I got what I may well consider my best award ever for winning a race. When S2F moved their trail race to Ann Springs a few years ago, the WWC guys started the Rocky Road 1/2 road 1/2 trail races in January. This year, I opted for the 10k. This turned out to be an awesome decision as I won the race. Coming along with the WWC Race Series cup was a pint of Rocky Road Ice Cream. Definitely, this was an award fitting of the race.

The 1/2 marathoners were off at 8:30 AM while the 5k & 10k races were off at 9:30 AM. I actually didn't know where I was in the 10k at the first turn around. Between the 5k going back on a slightly different course back, and the 10k course mixing with the 1/2 marathoners, I just focused on passing runners.

The trail section of the races come in the second 1/2 of these races. The 1/2 marathoners had cut up the trail in several places. My shoes were not exactly the best in the off-camber sections.  Yet, I stayed on my feet. I was sweating pretty heavily. 60+ degrees in January feels like 80s in April. A few times, my legs felt heavy but in the smoother sections, they came back around. Overall, I was very happy with my effort.

One other note, the WWC were on their game. Races were on time. They had an awesome shirt. The awards came quickly. So, they were like clockwork yesterday. I definitely give them an A+ for their efforts.
